*Things went from bad to worse for the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night. The Lakers fell to 9-13 with a 100-94 loss in Cleveland. Led by Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers earned their 5th win of the season. Irving scored a team high 28 points while dishing out 11 assists. Astonishingly, Irving’s 11 assists matched the entire team total of the struggling Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 42 points to lead Los Angeles. The problem for Kobe and LA is that there seems to be little offensive flow. If the assist numbers weren’t alarming enough, the shot totals are quite telling as well. Kobe shot the ball 28 times, the rest of the starters shot the ball 29 times combined. Granted, no Pau Gasol and no Steve Nash, but these are the Cavs we’re talking about here. They’re a feisty young team, but they are 5-17 for a reason.
The Lakers continued to be victimized on the defensive end. With known lock-down defenders, Bryant, Peace and Howard on the roster, it’s perplexing to say the least. Los Angeles looks old, slow and uninterested on both ends of the floor. Jack Nicholson cannot be pleased.
*The New York Knicks beat the Brooklyn Nets 100-97 at the Barclays Center. Former Nets point guard Jason Kidd drilled a tie-breaking 3 pointer with :24 left. That would prove to be the nail in Brooklyn’s coffin. The loss was New J… I mean, Brooklyn’s 5th consecutive. Carmelo Anthony scored a game high 45 points to lead the Knicks, who continue to be the talk of the Eastern Conference. As for Kidd, it was his first crack at the Nets in a Knicks uniform. He missed the Knicks overtime loss to the Nets on November 26th. New York has now won 7 of their last 8.
*The New York Yankees officially sign former Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis. My feelings for Youkilis are as follows: http://703juiceatomic.com/2012/12/07/atomic-sports-you-kill-us/
(Disclaimer: I was bombed in a Yankees chat room when I posted this. I was shocked by how many NYY fans are in favor of this move. I know he’s a scrapper, a gamer, and a hard-nosed ball player….but he’s not a Yankee, and he’s not worth $12 million. Last thing:The piece was indeed meant to be comical. – For those too serious to recognize comedy)
*Mens Tennis Star Novak Djokovic really digs Donkey Cheese. Most days, a headline like that would be satire. Today, it’s legit: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/tennis-busted-racquet/novak-djokovic-buying-world-entire-supply-donkey-cheese-152716656–ten.html
