Two of the worlds wealthiest sports franchises have announced a joint venture today. The New York Yankees joined forces with Manchester City FC to bring Major League Soccer it’s 20th club.
New York City FC will begin play in Spring 2015. The club is currently finalizing negotiations on a 13 acre plot of land in Corona Park which will eventually house the new franchise. The Flushing Meadows location is near Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
New York already has an MLS franchise, in name only. The New York Red Bulls make their home in Harrison, NJ. The proposed soccer-only facility in Queens would be the first of it’s kind within the five borough’s.
The club is looking at additional sites, but it is believed that a deal is close.
