Ibra Flexing The Skills
Manuel Pellegrini has been vocal in recent days about his club’s need for more firepower up front. Even prior to Manchester City sending Carlos Tevez to Juventus, the Citizens have been linked to a myriad of strikers. Big ticket players like Radamel Falcao, Isco and now apparently Edinson Cavani have gone elsewhere. Recent names like Fred, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic have all been linked to an Etihad move.
Yet none of those names, even Falcao and Cavani, have the intrigue of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibra is thought to be a “have-able” player when Paris St. Germain officially lures Edinson Cavani to Ligue 1. Pellegrini is a known admirer of the skilled Swedish striker. There are reports that City is readying an offer and are prepared to “go-hard” after The Zlatan Of Swing.
Zlatan and Cavani are unlikely to be paired together at PSG. The two play nearly identical games. Cavani has the advantage of youth over the 31-year-old Ibrahimovic, yet lacks the track record and Champions League pedigree. Zlatan scores wherever he goes and often does so in mind-boggling fashion.
If City does land the Zlatan Of Swat, you’d have to immediately boost their stock. As it stands, City is still one of the top 3 BPL teams on paper. Ibra working in front of the talented Man City midfield could make them even more dangerous than the 2012 Championship squad. Think of the old guard, mixed with the weapon of Jesus Navas’ top-end pace, feeding crosses into the monstrous target of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. That could be scary for opponents. Toure, Kompany and Ibra in the box, waiting for corners would be equally as scary.
Reports also indicate that even if Ibra does make his way to The Etihad, Jovetic or Negredo could still be joining him. Aguero will be back, but Edin Dzeko may be making a move to Serie A outfit- Napoli. He’d be replacing Edinson Cavani, thus- Jovetic or Negredo will then be needed by City to replace Dzeko. With 51 days left in the transfer window, there are sure to be many twists and turns ahead. Manuel Pellegrini should have some new weapons quite soon.
